Who’s JMIC?

JMIC – the Joint Meetings Industry Council – was established in 1978 as a vehicle for creating a forum for the exchange of information and perspectives amongst international associations engaged in various aspects of the Meetings Industry. It has met bi-annually each year and served as a link between its member organizations as well as a means of reviewing industry conditions and strategies.

In 2003, JMIC undertook the development of a global strategy for increasing awareness of the Meetings Industry and the benefits it creates for communities and organizations all over the world. This program, and its accompanying materials, is presented elsewhere in this web site.

Today, JMIC comprises most major industry associations and is directing its energies primarily toward addressing the need for a higher profile for the industry and a better appreciation of the role it plays in development of the global economy and the advancement of business, professional and academic interests.

Today, JMIC has four primary objectives:

  1. To enhance and coordinate communications and exchange within the industry
  2. To generate broader industry profile, particularly amongst business, government and media audiences
  3. To articulate and mobilize industry opinion and documentation on key issues and messages
  4. To engage relevant government and NGO bodies in areas of industry concern
As part of addressing these objectives, JMIC maintains the annual Unity Award for the recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the Meetings Industry and the level of professionalism it represents. It also recognizes individuals or organizations who have made exemplary efforts to build industry profile with the annual Profile and Power Award. Recent Award winners are identified on this web site.
